Schubert Research Group

Welcome!

The Schubert Research Group is led by Dr. Wayne H. Schubert of the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University. Focusing on atmospheric dynamics, we study a variety of meteorological phenomena, including tropical cyclones, the Intertropical Convergence Zone, the Madden-Julian Oscillation, water vapor "black holes", and subtropical highs. We utilize the latest datasets and a full complement of models, ranging from the simplest barotropic model to a state-of-the-art non-hydrostatic model. By combining in-situ observations with satellite remote sensing and modeling, we continue to make significant contributions to our understanding of the atmosphere.

In May 2008, Hewlett-Packard donated nearly $100,000 in hardware to the Schubert Research Group to support and enhance our tropical cyclone research program. The donated hardware includes 8 top-of-the-line xw8600 workstations and 8 widescreen monitors. Their generous gift is much appreciated, as it will enable us to run full-physics models, ensembles of simpler models, store large amounts of output, and visualize the data like never before.
